A butcher from Gateshead in England, Charles Thompson was the reserve keeper for Northumberland and Durham in 1915.

He enlisted on 28 June 1915 and fought at the Somme. His record was unremarkable apart from a couple of AWLs and he returned to Australia on 29 May 1919.

Before returning he played for the the 2nd Australian Pioneer Battalion Soccer Football Team (below), winners of the Brigade Group Medal Competition. He is third from the right in the back row.

His brother, James Thompson, who also played for the club was killed in action. While the Thompson family retained its engagement with the club, there is little to indicate that Charles played after the war.
