On 21 July 1917, the Newcastle Morning Herald reported that over 50 per cent of Adamstown footballers had enlisted and ‘Will’ Love was one of the players who lost his life. Wounded in action in France (gunshot wound, head) on 12 July 1916, he was admitted to 8th Field Ambulance. He died later on the same day.
