On 2 September 1916 The West Australian reported, “The many friends of Corporal Will Leslie (Perth Club), son of the president of the association Mr. W. Leslie, will be pleased to learn that he is progressing favourably. Leslie received a shot in the head, and was reported as seriously wounded, but a cablegram received by his father on Thursday states that he is on the road to recovery.” Corporal Leslie was wounded in France on 27 July 1916. After a long convalesence in Weymouth, he was discharged from hospital 12 November 1916 and departed England for his return home on 13 February 1917. He passed away at the age of 61 in 1953.
