William Kybert was born on 9 August 1891 and arrived in Perth from London as a 19 year old on 7 February 1911. He started appearing for the Perth club by June the same year and remained a stalwart of the club until his enlistement in June 1916 when the competition was suspended due to lack of numbers because of the war.
Private Kybert saw action on the Western Front and was twice wounded. The first time in October 1917 he suffered a contusion to his back and the second time received a gun shot wound to his right side in August 1918. He recovered but he was to visit the hospital again after the war when when he contracted a venereal disease from a prostitute in Le Havre, France.
Kybert eventually returned to Australia later in 1919 but his injuries from the war put a stop to his playing days.
He returned to England in early 1920. On 20 June 1923, ‘Unomi’ in The West Australian reported, “Followers of the game in general and the Perth Club (now defunct) in particular will regret to learn of the untimely death of W. Kybert, who met his fate in a motorcycle accident near Bristol, in England.” He was 31 years of age.
