On 9 September 1916 the Age reported the son of “Mr. and Mrs. Andrews. ‘Camden.’ Orlando-street Hampton”, Corporal William Henry Andrews of the 60th Battalion, as missing in action.

As corporal of a grenade section he served in Egypt and Arabia before being transferred to France. Prior to enlisting in July, 1915, he was a prominent sportsman, and was connected with the Port Phillip Yacht Club, and Sandringham British Association Football Club.

Such is the slow trickle of information, in August William, hitherto Secretary of Sandringham soccer football club, had already been declared killed in action by a court of enquiry.

Andrews was born in NSW in 1890 and had migrated to Victoria with his parents as an infant.
