William Edward ‘Ted’ Court was born on 3 March 1895 in Leicester, England.

Migrating with his family (parents, 5 boys, 4 girls) in 1912 and settling in Brunswick, he played for newly formed Brunswick United in 1915. A Mr. Court was elected Treasurer but it is unclear whether this is Ted. In June 1915 he scored the final goal in what must have been an upset 3-0 victory over Northumberland and Durham.

Enlisting in August 1916 and arriving in France mid-1917, he served (without much of note contained in his records) on the western front for two years before returning to Australia. There is not much trace of Ted Court in the newspaper reports. A player named Court was listed for St Kilda’s in the mid-1920s but it’s unclear whether he was our man (around 30 years old), one of his younger brothers or someone else.

After a long time spent in Brunswick he moved to Altona in the 1940s and died on 5 October 1966, at the age of 71, and was buried in Altona, Victoria.
