William Brown Biggart was born on 3 November 1892 in Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland. The family migrated to Brisbane in 1910, finding its way to Footscray before 1914 (a Biggart is listed as a goalkeeper for Williamstown in 1911 and a Biggart played full back for Albert park in 1912) when William played as a forward for Footscray Thistle in 1914 and 1915. He played for “Scotland” in 1915 and again after the war in 1920.
Enlisting in mid 1916, he eventually joined his Battalion in France in early 1917. By the middle of that year he was diagnosed with severe deafness which led to his return to Australia and discharge by the end of the year – though not before he could be charged with failing to salute an officer.
He returned to football with Footscray Thistle in 1919 but only seems to have played one club game in 1920.
He died on 30 July 1976 in Ferntree Gully, Victoria.
