Stanley Tacey played for Toowoomba soccer club Heathers in the early part of the 1910s before enlisting in 1916.

He arrived in France with the 11th Machine Gun Company in mid-1917 which was later merged into the new 3rd Machine Gun Battalion in March 1918. His first year in Europe was interrupted only by training and a bout of rheumatism, before his war ended in August 1918. Tacey was gassed during the Second Battle of the Somme and he was evacuated to England before being invalided back to Australia a month after armistice.

His name was added to the Toowoomba British Football Association honour board in 1918.

Tacey died in 1961 while living in New South Wales and was buried in Rookwood Cemetery.
