Balmain born Ron Jacobson played for Balmain Kia-Ora in the Sydney Metropolitan Club League.

He enlisted at the age of 23 in January 1916 on the same day as his club mate James Holmes. Jacobson served in the 7 Field Artillery Brigade and was wounded in action in France in May 1917. He returned to his unit and in September was gassed and spent a month in hospital. Jacobson again returned to his unit and was promoted to the rank of Bombardier.

On 8 August 1918 Ron Jacobson was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux in France on the same day as teammate James Holmes. In August 1918 his club wore black armbands in his and Holmes’ memory.
