Bob Craig received a great accolade from Socceroo Wilf Bratten after the war. Writing in the Brisbane Courier on 13 August 1928, Bratten said he had played with Craig for the 3rd Australian Division against a Royal Air Force team. Bratten claimed Craig and the other players in the division squad were better players than him, a future international. Despite losing 3-2, Craig scored both of the Division’s goals, and with one shot saw the ball burst when it hit a mechanic watching the game, who had to be carried away.

Craig was one of four in the Division team who had played for Thistles in Brisbane before the war. He enlisted in December 1915 and spent a year in training to become part of the 3rd Sanitary Section. The Section was specially trained to both order and implement sanitary improvement in camps, such as building latrines and improving food safety. They would also occasionally act as stretcher bearers during battles.

Craig and the 3rd Sanitary Section arrived in France in November 1916. Not much is known about Craig’s movements in France, though he was promoted as high as Acting Sergeant, and seems to have avoided physical injury.

Craig returned to Australia in 1919 and spent the next decade playing for Thistle, Pineapple Rovers and Latrobe, as well as coaching Toombul in 1930.
