Percy Hamlin Beckett was born on 23 December 1888 in Minehead, Somerset, the son of Sarah and Harry. He came to Australia in 1912 and worked in Mildura, playing for Irymple.

First enlisting on 12 September 1914 in Mildura, Percy was discharged and subsequently re-enlisted in November 1914. He joined the fray in Gallipoli in May 1915 and was killed in action on 7 August 1915 in Gelibolu, Canakkale, Turkey, at the age of 26, and was buried there.
