Malcolm George Stewart was born on 2 October 1893 in York, Western Australia. A notable runner, swimmer and life saver, he attended Training College. Also a dominant centre-half, he played first class football for the institution from 1912 as an 18-year-old. In September of that year his play and resulting goal was described in glowing terms in the West Australian:
young Stewart, who was most noticeable with long forward passes and following up for the centre, seized on a return from Johnson and drove past Briggs with the best shot of the game, the game ending two goals to nil in favour of Training College.Â
Malcolm enlisted in September 1914, surviving three years before dying of wounds on 19 October 1917 in Ypres, Belgium at the age of 24.Â
