Josiah ‘Joe’ Kemp arrived in Perth from England at the end of 1911 with his parents. He was a goalkeeper and according to press reports was registered with the Bayswater club at the time of his enlistement in 1915. He left as a Private in the 28th Battalion, served in France, and by the time he returned in 1919 had been promoted to Staff Sergeant in the Dental Corps. However, it was his decade long post-war service between the posts for Northern Casuals in the 1920s where he was recognised as one the best goalkeepers in WA. Josiah Kemp married Phyllis Leonie in 1919 and had two children during their marriage. He passed away in 1961 at the age of 68.
