John Noel Bonney

John Bonney learned his football as a student at Claremont State School and represented Claremont as a teenager in their lower grade teams. By 1914 he had moved with his family to Narrogin where he became a farmer. In June that same year, the Training College team from Perth made the 200 kilometre trip to Narrogin to play the local team which featured Bonney. Private Bonney enlisted in the 10th Light Horse and saw action at Gallipoli where he received a shell wound to the arm at Hill 60 on 7 August 1915. He was transferred to Egypt and resumed duties as a Driver. On 3 October 1918 he was admitted to field hospital in Damascus with malaria and passed away two weeks later. His grave can be found at the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Damascus, Syria. AZ
