James Falconer was the middle of three brothers from Toowoomba who progressively enlisted in 1915. An ambulance bearer by trade, he was assigned to the 6th Engineers. He arrived in France in August 1916, where he had a relatively uneventful war. He was eventually assigned to the 3rd Motor Transport Company before returning to Australia in mid-1919. This transfer may explain his change of career after the war, when he became a mechanic and foreman at Falconer’s Motors, a garage opened by his elder brother Hugh after the war.
James, Hugh and the youngest brother John all appeared on the Toowoomba British Football Association honour board, with the family having a connection to the Park Rangers club before the war. He died in 1981.
