Durham-born Hilton Marsden arrived in Sydney from England in August 1912. By 1914 he had moved to Melbourne and became one of the best players for the Northumberland and Durham club. Representing Victoria against Tasmania when they visited the island state in August 1914, he also played in the 1914 Dockerty Cup Final and in August 1915 he played for “England” aganst “Scotland” at the Fitzroy Cricket Ground.
He enlisted in September 1916 and on 4 October 1917 he received a severe gunshot wound to his left forearm and wrist. He embarked for return to Melbourne on 10 January 1918.
He married Blanche Moylan in 1922 and died in November 1926, aged 35.
