Bert Crowe was a Melbourne-born piano tuner who played for Toowoomba-based club Park Rangers, later known as Allies. He enlisted with several of his teammates in August 1914. Assigned to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, he was sent to Gallipoli where he suffered gunshot wounds to the hip and elbow in May 1915. He returned to England via Alexandria, and finally sent back to Australia due to weakened muscles. He married in 1920 and moved to Warwick.
