Soon after arriving in Egypt, Adamstown’s Private George Pollock was transferred to the 4th Pioneer Battalion and shipped to France to fight on the Western Front where he was promoted to Corporal on 8 August 1916 and then to Sergeant on 4 March 1917. Awarded the Military Medal on 14 October 1917 for bravery in the field, he survived the war and upon his return he resumed playing for Adamstown.

He became of of their more prominent players and in June 1920 he scored the only goal for a select Newcastle B Grade team in their victory over a Sydney B Grade team.

George Pollock died in Hurstville, NSW, in 1951, aged 56.
