On 21 July 1917, the Newcastle Morning Herald reported that over 50 per cent of Adamstown’s footballers had enlisted and George Elliott Love was one of the players who lost his life. Private Elliott died of wounds at the Battle Of Messines (gunshot wounds to chest, neck and both knees) on 8 June 1917. He was 28. At the time he was deployed as a stretcher bearer in the 9th Australian Field Ambulance. In Adamstown he was employed at the Sulphide Works.
