George Butler Adlam was born in October 1885 in Seaham, Durham. He married Agnes Violet Evelyn Walker in April 1912 in Brentford, Middlesex. They were living in Richmond in 1914 and George was a key player with Albert Park, where he every absence during military training was noted as a blow to the team.
George enlisted a year later. He received a gun shot wound to his chest while fighting in France, an injury that ultimately ended his time at war.
George returned to Australia in September 1918 before moving with Agnes to Adelaide, where he started a motor trimming business. On the 3rd of February, 1923, a warrant was issued for George Butler Adlam charged with unlawfully leaving his wife without adequate support.
