Embarkation Details
Embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A60 Aeneas on 29 June 1915

George Board enlisted in February 1915, departed Australia in June, and died from shrapnel wounds at Gallipoli in November, aged 23.

Board was born in Kent and arrived in Australia as a 19-year-old. He played soccer for Middle Ridge and made the Toowoomba representative team in 1912. His contribution to the local league led to his name being added to the Toowoomba British Football Association honour board unveiled in 1918.

Honouring him at Gallipoli, though, was a cause of confusion. It was initially reported he was buried at Chailak Dere Cemetery on the day of his death, but an audit after the war found his remains were never recovered. As a result, at some point after October 1913, his name was to be added to a headstone tablet at Embarkation Pier Cemetery in Gallipoli.
