Frederick Linden played goalkeeper for both Cities and Western Suburbs in the Toowoomba League before joining the forces in June 1915.
He was assigned to the 25th Battalion and deployed to Gallipoli in October 1915, but was sent to hospital with jaundice two months later. After his recovery, Linden rejoined his unit in France. He suffered gunshot wounds and a fractured tibia in August 1916 while fighting at Pozieres, leading to his return to Australia early in the new year.
In 1932 Linden was found guilty of stealing £350 from the Brisbane Postal Staff Café, of which he was secretary. His police interview revealed the money was used for gambling on horses. While his military record was mentioned in his defence, he was nonetheless sentenced to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour.
Linden died in June 1968.
