Faustino Chiarelli’s father, also named Faustino, arrived in Sydney from Italy in 1880 to work on the water supply scheme. He moved to the Hunter region and eventually became a miner. Faustino was also a miner and he appeared in the Cessnock football team register and team lists in 1915. Sergeant Chiarelli received a severe gunshot wound to the thigh in France on 11 May 1918 and departed England for his return to Australia on 4 January 1919. He died in Sandgate, NSW, in 1961, aged 69.
