Ernest West was born on 18 December 1894 and arrived in Perth from Brighton, England, just before the war. All we know about his connection with the junior club Leederville was when ‘Unomi’ of the The West Australian reported his enlistment in the paper on 7 August 1915.
Private West was wounded in action twice in France. The first time on 4 September 1916 with a bullet wound to the leg and the second time on 5 April 1918 with a bullet wound to the chest.
He survived the war, returned to Perth where he married Dorothy Aylett in 1922 and was father to three children. He passed away in 1970 at the age of 75.
