Edward Bertholli’s name was inscribed on the Merewether Advance honor board. He had progressed from the under 18 team to Merewether’s fourth grade team in 1915. By October 1915 he was selected to play in the first grade team due to player absences from enlistments. Private Bertholli was wounded and received shell shock on 11 August 1916. He lost vision in his right eye and was invalided to England where he was assigned to the Australian Base Post Office in London until his return to Australia in 1918. Edward Bertholli died in 1951 at the age of 56.
