Another sorry tale with a vague and imprecise archival record.
Born in Saltcoats, Ayrshire in about 1895, Arthur Aitken arrived in Australia in 1912. He played football and possibly cricket for Melbourne Thistle.
Inflating his age a couple of years, he enlisted in Maryborough Queensland. Arthur went missing at Gallipoli on 8 August 1915; report updated as wounded and missing on 21 August 1915. On 6 April 1916 officially confirmed as Killed in Action on 21 August 1915.
Three brothers in Scotland died from war service.
