Albin ‘Aubery’ George Cowderoy was playing with Nerimbera FC in Rockhampton when he enlisted with his teammate and meat company colleague Frederick Bennett. As a farewell gift, the club presented the pair with wristwatches at the conclusion of their final game.

Initially allocated to the 2nd Light Horse, he served for the 1st Field Company of Engineers in Egypt where he rose to Corporal. In 1919 he was demoted to Sapper after a court martial due to refusal to follow orders. As a guard he had witnessed a disturbance but refused to name the participants when ordered.
