Walter Brown of Parramatta was the captain of the Holroyd team playing in the Granville district competition.

Brown enlisted just as the 1915 season was drawing to a close. He was aged 20 and working as a carpenter at the time of his enlistment. Brown was reported missing in action in August 1916 but word came through that he had been captured and was a prisoner of war in Germany, interred at a camp in Dulmen, the same camp as Granville player Dick Fairweather. Given that they were both in the 1st battalion and captured on the same day, it was likely they were captured in the same action. He arrived back in England on 17 December 1918.
