Percy Stanger arrived in Sydney from England on 31 May 1913. He settled in North Sydney and soon joined the Northern Suburbs club, making his debut three weeks later. “The Greens had a new man in Stanger, a player with a record in the Homeland. He played a left full-back game with credit, and on the whole was a great success in the making of his Australian debut,” reported The Saturday Referee.

In 1914, the now captain of Northern Suburbs, toured Queensland with the NSW team and also represented the state against a visiting Victorian team. On 19 August 1915 Sydney’s Daily Telegraph reported, “Prominent footballer enlists. Mr. Percy Stanger, honorary treasurer to the New South Wales Football Association, a fine all round athlete, has enlisted, and is hopeful of obtaining a place in the artillery section. He represented New South Wales against Queensland, and while in England toured Holland and Belgium with English amateur teams. He will go into camp on Saturday.” He was presented with a wristlet watch by the management committee of that body prior to his leaving for the front.

Percy Stanger served in the Middle East during his service with the AIF, being promoted from Private to Sergeant by the time he was discharged in February 1920. A few months later, at the age of 34 he turned out for one final season with Sydney second grade team Willoughby.

By the 1930s Percy Stanger had moved to Victoria and married Alice Maud Ferguson in 1935. He died in Prahran on 24 January 1944 at the age of 56.
