Arthur Springett was born in 1896 in Parramatta. Enlisting at just 18 years of age, he had played junior football in the Granville district.

He joined the 19th battalion and first saw action in Gallipoli. After a spell in hospital in Egypt he rejoined his unit in France. In September 1916 he was wounded in action for the first time. Although suffering from shell shock he was back in the line a few weeks later. In November 1916 he suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and was back in hospital. By January 1917 Springett was back in the front line where he was promoted to Lance Corporal. In May 1917 he took a bullet to the thigh and was hospitalised for nearly three months before rejoining his unit towards the end of 1917. In April 1918 Springett was wounded for the fourth time, a shell wound to the left arm. While recovering in hospital he would have found out that his older brother George had been killed in action in the same month.

Springett was evacuated to England to recuperate before being repatriated to Australia. He died in Newtown on 1 July 1941.
