Robert Marshall Kinmond, a labourer, was born in Dundee and came to Adelaide in 1911. A keen footballer, he played in the Port Adelaide Reserves side that won the Second Division title in 1912 and was a member of Port’s first team squad by 1914.

He served with the 10th Battalion at Gallipoli and in France, where he was promoted to Lance-Corporal. Reported missing at the Battle of Pozieres in July 1917, he was not confirmed as killed in action until late 1918.
