Thomas Ballantyne Moir was born on 28 March 1895 in Hobart, Tasmania and came to Corrimal with his Family as a boy. An able sportsman Tom played cricket, tennis, and football for Corrimal Rangers. Prior to enlistment Tom was a bank clerk at the English, Scottish and Australian Bank.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with 2nd Reinforcements, 14th Field Company Engineers on 14th April 1916. The troops arrived in Egypt on 16th May 1916 and Tom went on to France arriving on 15th June 1916. He was transferred to 5th Division Engineers on 7th August 1916 and saw service on the Western Front without being wounded. He was admitted to hospital in France on 23rd November 1916 with bronchitis but returned to his unit on 27th November. Tom returned to Australia in May 1919.

He died on 8 June 1933 after a period of illness in Kendall where he was a bank manager. His funeral was held in Corrimal and he was buried in Bulli Cemetery.
