James McFarlane was born in 1883 in Arbroath, Scotland. Private McFarlane played for Cessnock before enlisting on 24 August 1914, and departing two months later on board Transport A23 Suffolk.
He was killed in action at Gallipoli, where his body is at rest in the Lone Pine Cemetery.
