John Bryson Dunsmuir, born in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire, was in Australia by 1910 when he played for the St George soccer club in Sydney. Moving to South Australia, he turned out for the Port Adelaide club for three seasons and was a frequent goal scorer.
Moving back to NSW Dunsmuir enlisted in the AIF at Holsworthy on 27 August 1915. He was 29 years old, single and a “sawyer”. He was promoted to lance corporal with the 56th Battalion and survived the Battle of Fromelles shortly after arriving in France.
John Dunsmuir was killed in action at Polygon Wood on 26 September 1917.
