On 14 July 1923 Robert Howcroft appeared in an Honor Roll for the Claremont Soccer Club published in The Western Chronicle. Howcroft arrived in Perth from England as a 19 year old and before moving to Nanga Brook to become a timber worker he turned out for Claremont’s junior team in 1912. He was the Senior Bugler of the 16th Battalion. On 9 May 1915 he was reported missing in Gallipoli. On 6 April 1916 a court of enquiry declared him killed in action.
