Christopher Thomas Parker Ewing was born in Nowra, New South Wales and moved to Perth where he plied his trade as both a law clerk, and a centre half for Austral. ‘Chris’ Ewing enlisted in August of 1914, and embarked in November of the same year. During his service, Private Ewing was wounded at the Dardanelles on the 9 August 1915, sustaining gun shot wounds to both his right hand and right foot. On his return, a newspaper report bemoaned that, “Chris is another fine exponent that will be lost to soccerdom for the future, as he has sustained such injuries to his foot that football will be out of the question. More’s the pity.” Thomas Ewing died 37 years after his return, on 14 August 1953, at the age of 61.
