Walter Adie left Scotland in 1912 and settled in Balgownie where he worked at the Mt Keira coal mine, married Maud Brown and played for the local football team. Private Adie served on the Western Front and was wounded in Pozieres in July 1916 with shell shock and transferred to England to recover. While there he skipped the Christmas military tattoo and was punished with 48 hours detention. In May 1917 he was diagnosed with synovitis of the left knee and invalided to be sent home. He departed London on 27 August 1917 and was discharged from the AIF on 29 November 1917. After the war Walter Adie went back to work as a miner and served the Balgownie Rangers as a goalkeeper, trainer and committee member. He died in 1971, aged 82.
