On 15 September 1916, the South Coast Times reported, “Once again the sad news of the grim toll of war has arrived in Balgownie. The friends of Pte. J. W. Cram have received official news of his death in action on the 10th August. The deceased was well known in the district as a footballer, having for many years been the foremost goalkeeper for the Balgownie team; being highly esteemed as a genial and faithful companion, and a promising citizen.”
John Cram was killed in the Battle Of Pozieres on 10 August 1916. He was 32 years of age.
