Joseph Bayliss arrived in Australia with his parents from England in 1911. He represented the Lancashire Society in 1913 and 1914, playing in the team that won the Dewar Cup Final against Burns Anniversary in September 1914. On 28 September 1916 he was killed in action in a field in Flanders, Belgium. He was 22 years of age.
