Private James Allanson’s name was inscribed on the Merewether Advance Honor Board. In a field in France on 31 July 1916 he received a schrapnel wound in the upper arm. He was invalided and on 9 December 1916 he departed England for his return to Australia. His older brother Thomas Allanson went missing in action on 19 July 1916 and was pronounced KIA a year later. James Allanson married Marion Taylor in 1919. In 1951 he was elected President of the Newcastle Rotary Club. He died in 1958, aged 64.
