William Henry Acquroff was born on 28 October 1891 in Canongate, Midlothian. His family migrated to Brisbane in 1912, finding their way to Melbourne by 1914.

He turned out a number of times for Melbourne Thistle before enlisting with the 6th Battalion in July 1915. He was killed in action on 4 October 1917 in Belgium at the age of 25, and was buried in Leper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

His brother Alexander was also involved with the Thistle Club and served with the Flying Corps.
