Although not a senior player in the Adamstown team before the war, James Weimer was selected to represent the 34th Battalion in a match against the 36th Battalion behind the trenches in 1917. He was twice wounded in action. He died in 1973, aged 81. His older brother Sergeant William Weimer, also a member of the Adamstown club, won the Belgian Croix de Guerre.
