Wilson Dunlop was born in 1897 in Auchinleck, Ayrshire. In 1914 he was described as a “stone wall” keeper for Footscray Thistle. The Footscray Advertiser reported on 16 June 1917:

ROLL OF HONOR. “The Unreturning Brave.”- Byron.

Pte. Wilson Dunlop, son of Mr and Mrs J. Dunlop, 13 Herbert-street, was reported wounded on May 11th. This week word was received that he had succumbed to his injuries. Pte. Dunlop was 20 years of age and a Scotchman by birth, having come out with his parents about 5 years ago. He had worked almost the whole time since at Miller’s Rope Works. He joined the 22nd Battalion in October 1916 and went almost at once to France. Pte. Dunlop was one of the leading players of the Thistle Soccer Club. Another brother, Driver Jas. Dunlop, is still in France.
