Alexander Sneddon, born in Minmi, New South Wales, was the goalkeeper for Cessnock both before and after his involvement in the war. He first played senior football in 1912 against Canterbury and later appeared in a losing effort in the 1921 Kerr Cup final.
Sneddon enlisted on 15 January 1916, embarking from Sydney on 2 May the same year. He played for 34th Battalion in a series of games between various allied military teams. Returning on 8 October 1919, Sneddon resumed life in Cessnock and passed away in his ninth decade on 7 January 1973.
