Charles Leonard Limb (known as Len), a carpenter, was born in Wigan, Lancs, and arrived in Adelaide in 1911. He was a regular player for the South Adelaide club in 1912 and 1913 before eventually enlisting in October 1915.
He served with the 4th Pioneer Battalion in France and England, and married Emily Scotson in Wigan in May 1917. He took his discharge from the AIF in England on July 29th 1919 and did not return to South Australia.
