George Harrington was one of the 106 names on the Toowoomba British Football Association Honour Board unveiled in 1918. He played for the Park Rangers club, later known as Allies, before his enlistment along with several teammates in August 1914. By May 2015, eight players had enlisted, leaving only three members to rebuild the club.

Initially a Private, Harrington rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant before the end of the year and Captain by war’s end. He fought at Gallipoli until the evacuation in early 1916 and was later transferred to the 3rd Machine Gun Company in France. In 1917 he was seconded to the Machine Gun Training Depot in Grantham, England, where he was the senior Australian officer in camp.

After a brief return to the field in France, Harrington was transferred to the School of Instruction in late 2018. He was on leave in England when the war concluded.

Harrington returned to Australia in 1919 shortly after marrying. He died in 1969.
