Newly arrived, Scottish-born Charles Taylor was a prominent playing member of Geraldton’s Thistle club in the 1914 and 1915 seasons.

He enlisted as a Sapper in the Mining Corps and served on the Western Front. On 12 August 1917 he was poisoned in gas attack which necessitated his transfer to an English hospital. He recovered and rejoined his unit in France in January 1918 where he saw action until the end of the war having attained the rank of Sergeant.

‘Charlie’ Taylor returned to Geraldton on 7 June 1919, and immediately resumed playing with Thistle. He became the licensee of the Murchison Inn and allowed the local football association to use his house as its headquarters. In August 1922 he travelled to Perth with a Geraldton select team to compete in the British Football Association’s Country Week. While he was there took to the opportunity to get married.

In September 1926 Taylor relinquished the management of the Murchison Inn and left Geraldton. We have no further details in regards to his personal life.
