Douglas Elliott arrived in Western Australia from Yorkshire as an 18 year old in late 1905. In 1908 he was making appearances for Northern Casuals and was still playing for the club in September 1914 when he enlisted in the 16th Battalion.
He landed at Gallipoli on the afternoon of 25 April 1915 and was severely wounded two days later with a shrapnel wound to the shoulder. He was evacuated to Manchester, England, to recover and rejoined his unit at Lemnos in early December 1915. He then served in the Middle East and then France where he was promoted to Pay Sergeant in April 1917.
He returned to Perth in early 1919 and according to newspaper reports played for one more season for Casuals before hanging up the boots.
Douglas Elliott passed away in Perth on 23 February 1966 at the age of 78.
