Frederick Clayton was born in Fremantle around 1895. An outstanding student at the Menzies state school, he gained a scholarship to the Public Normal School, associated with the Training College – for whom he was a busy forward in 1915.
He arrived in England late in the war (May 1918) and so saw little action. Towards the end of his service Lieutenant Clayton engaged in a tour of British educational institutions.
After the war ‘Sticky’ Clayton resumed playing, keeping for the College in 1920. He worked to restore a waning Training College to its former glories, seeing it resurface temporarily in 1924 and 1925.
His long career as a teacher concluded when he retired as Headmaster at Perth South in 1956.
