Walter Bell Blair was born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales. A teacher (monitor in 1911) until enlistment, he played for Training College as an outside right and was described as having a “powerful shot”. He was usually mentioned positively in match reports.
Enlisting early, in time for the Dardanelles campaign, he landed on the morning of 25 April and was killed in action at Gallipoli on 2 May 1915.
